Effortless ‘Date Night’ Steak & Chunky Potato Wedges

If you’re wanting to impress your date, try our effortless steak and chunky potato wedges recipe. With minimal work, you can have a mouthwatering beef steak cooked to perfection and homemade chunky potato chips on the side. The timings for this recipe allow the meat to rest before and after cooking, resulting in a perfect steak. Try and buy the best quality steak you can for this, sourcing from your local butchers if possible. For the potatoes, use rooster, russet or Maris Piper potatoes, and leave them unpeeled. Serve with garden peas and a dollop of garlic mayonnaise on the side.
- 2 x 200-gram fillet steaks
- 1 heaped tbsp Steak Mate Seasoning
- Rapeseed oil, to cook
- 3 medium potatoes, unpeeled
- 2 tbsp rapeseed oil
- 1 tsp Seaweed Seasoning

Take the steaks out of the fridge and rub them on both sides with the Steak Mate Seasoning. Leave out to come to room temperature.

Meanwhile, halve the potatoes lengthwise, and then cut each half into quarters. You’ll get 8 wedges from each potato.

Cover the potatoes with cold water and leave to soak for 20 minutes while you preheat your oven to 180 C fan/ 200 C/ gas mark 6.

Place the potato wedges in a bowl, drizzle with the rapeseed oil and sprinkle with the Seaweed Seasoning. Toss to coat.

Arrange the potato wedges in a single layer on a baking tray and bake for 30-35 minutes, turning once after 15 minutes.

After you turn the potatoes, brush a grill pan with a little rapeseed oil and heat over a high heat. Cook your steaks for 4 minutes on each side, turning once, for medium-rare. Cook for a further 2 minutes on each side for a well-done steak.
