Sweets and Treats for Halloween

Halloween is a time when things go bump in the night, and we gorge ourselves on the sweet stuff. It is also the time when we stock up our cupboards and prepare to be trick or treated by the neighbourhood kids! The mixture of the sugar high and the spooky spice is enough to put anyone on edge! Yet, every year we celebrate the night before All Saints Day, the evening before All Hallow, by dressing up and being a little bit naughty before we have to be good again.

How do our makers stack up in our love of sweet treats at this ghoulish time of year? Let’s explore some more.

Vegan-friendly fudge… why not?

If you are really looking to treat the tricksters this year, you could always hand out handmade and hand-packed fudge. While the strawberry and cream gourmet fudge might be a little too nice for the local kids, you can call on your devilish side and keep it all to yourself! Let’s face it – you miss out on Haribo as a vegan, so you might as well take your sweet luxuries where you can.

Echoes of holiday

If you missed out on your beach holiday this year, then you can get some of the delicious island flavours with Coconut Blueberry Nutty Nibbles. They are great for a snack at a spooky party for guests to nibble on… but still, maybe a little too nice for the kids who knock on the door. We’d still take the trick in favour of keeping all this flavour to ourselves!

A bonus here is that they are a high protein snack, so you will have loads of energy to get up to some mischief this Halloween.

Hiding fruit in chocolate… naughty

All parents know that getting fruit into their kids is a trick in itself. Here is a trick that can be offered as a treat – as an almond and apricot chocolate teacake – with shortbread biscuit, almond marshmallow and apricot jam. Oh, and let’s not forget the dark chocolate. Jacqueline at La Fleur de Chocolate has over 20 years of experience making treats like these – and she knows a bit about indulgence.

A mini bakery in a box

Imagine when the locals knock on the door, and you reach out your hand that holds Vegan Brigadeiro Truffles. Talk about keeping up with the Jones’; it will put the sweets offered by others in the shade! Alternatively, you can use Miss Apple’s Mini Bakery as a snack at your ghost and ghouls party, keeping people from fading away with the silky truffles filled with pistachio, strawberry, and more.

Or keep everything for yourself!

To be fair, Halloween is the day of the year when you are given permission to be naughty. All this gifting of truffles, chocolates and more to the local neighbourhood children feels too good to us. It might be time to pull the curtains, turn the light off, and ignore the front door. It is surely the best way to celebrate the sweets and treats of offer this October!
